Two years after co-starring in the 2004 series Precious Family, actress Lee Min Young and actor Lee Chan got married on December 10, 2006. Lee Min Young debuted as a child actress at four years old, while Lee Chan made his acting debut at age 23 in the 1999 series You’re One-of-a-Kind.

After 12 days of marriage, Lee Min Young was hospitalized for multiple injuries, including bruises on her left eye. Her lawyer at the time, Kim Jae Cheol, said that Lee Chan had struck Lee Min Young in the nose and stomach during an argument about the makeover of their new marital home, two days after the couple returned from their honeymoon.

From her hospital bed, Lee Min Young spoke to reporters after having undergone reconstructive surgery on her nose. She told them that after the argument–which had taken place in their car–Lee Chan had dragged her from the car and left her on the street.  At the time, Lee Min Young was 15 weeks pregnant, and she said the blow to her stomach had caused a miscarriage. She also told reporters that Lee Chan’s violence was habitual, claiming he had beaten her more than once before they were married. She had hoped he would change after they tied the knot.

At a press conference, Lee Chan denied the accusations, telling reporters that he had not kicked Lee Min Young’s stomach or dragged her from the car. Rather, he said, he and his ex-wife had slapped each other’s cheeks during the argument and that he had never struck her unprovoked.

In 2007, The Seoul Central District Court handed down a two-year suspended prison sentence to Lee Chan, who was indicted on charges of assault. He was sentenced to 240 hours of community service.

We decided to order him to do community service instead of imprisonment because he had no similar criminal record, confessed what he had done and the violence was unpremeditated and took place during altercations between the two.

Lee Chan’s last acting role was a supporting character in the 2016 K-Drama The Flower in Prison. Lee Min Young is still active in the entertainment industry. Most recently, she played Empress Cheonchu in the 2023-2024 series  Korea–Khitan War.
